Ok so the DV arrived this morning. I am really impressed with US postal services. It took less than 4 days to ship it half way across the world.
Anyway, first impressions are:
The image quality/resolution is pretty similar to the 4K.
SDE is there but really not that bad, similar to the 4K.
It is comfortable but wobbles around a bit. You need to fiddle to get the sweetspot. But I don't mind that so much, am willing to forgive it because:
The HMD does not rest on your nose. There is no pressure on the face at all.
Light bleeds in a little but in game I don't notice.
IPD adjustment works as it should (unlike the 4K)
Things that the 4K obviously can't compete with:
The tracking system. It is pretty impressive. Way better than the Driver4VR/Leap Motion thing I had going.
The controllers are actually pretty sturdy, and comfortable for me. But I have large hands.
Anyway, basically, yeah I am quite pleased.
If you only play simulation/gamepad games, then maybe not worth it.
But for anyone who can't wait for the 8K or the 4K tracking system, and wants a cheap stop-gap, or isn't interested in the 8K at all (like me) and just wants a decent tracking system, I'd say go for it. Especially if you live in the US with your crazy low prices.
