Actually just before I wanted to install v1.1.92 again, I thought, let's give my usual test in VRmark another try, this time with render 1.0x. And guess what, the letters are actually finally good readable ! Going to do some more tests but this is the first time I actually had an encouraging result with v1.2.x. I'm using v1.2.89 with FW 265.
Also with previous versions I would get black flickering on the sides of the screen in VRMark when I'd move my head quickly but I'm not seeing that anymore ! Not sure if the new FW has something to do with it ? But this is the first time I actually notice improvements
EDIT well it's not totally true, when I set render to 8k in VRmark then I still see the black parts flickering. However with 5k rendering I don't see it. It seems the Pimax renderer can't handle 8k rendering @xunshu But this isn't a big problem since games won't render anyway normally at 8k.
EDIT Another test I just did, again with Piplay render 1.0x is my other usual test in Project cars, park the car in such a way that the light falls on the dashboard and see if you can easily read the letters and again, I can !
Seems I underestimated Pimax engineers, finally I see progress ! This is encouraging !
The biggest disadvantage I still see at the moment is, like I described in my previous post, in Deovive. Even with render setting 1.0x I'm getting about 35-45 fps with settings that would get me 60 fps for 4k SBS movies in v1.1.92. But again, finally there's progress so I'm getting some hope again
EDIT I just noticed that it works fine when i set the render in Deovive to 'directshow', then I get full framerate without drops. When I use the default renderer or the VLC renderer in DeoVive then I get the lower framerate problem. Maybe this is something to go on for your engineers @xunshu
