200 or 170 Fov per game option

#1

@Pimax-Support, @xunshu

It was mentioned that a 170 Fov option per-game setting can be done in your driver software.

  1. Is this fixed to 200 or 170 or can a user change it in 10 degree steps right down to 110 Fov?
  2. Is this option applicable to all the Pimax 2018 HMD’s ?
  3. What is the performance gain between the settings?
  4. Does this work for both Oculus Store and Steam games? Assuming if launched from your own software.

Is it possible to make the FOV adjustment / supersampling operate automatically so that games that suddenly get heavy change these values, not in obvious immersion breaking jumps but as gradual changes like how dynmaic Black levels work on TV’s and Projectors (Dynamic Iris). This would allow the best of both worlds as it would lower or increase the effect based on real-time demand.

Cheers

I would rather have Pimax answer some of these questions because testers can only talk about what they have now, not what Pimax are aiming for in the longer term on this particular subject.

The different FOV is a function implemented in PiTool, will apply to both 5K+ and 8K, both steam and oculus games.
still testing the function. the best option really depends on graphics cards and games.

Thanks @xunshu

Any update on:

Is this fixed to 200 or 170 or can a user change it in 10 degree steps right down to 110 Fov?

Will the darkened parts in 170 mode be LCD black? So, greyish?
