8K detected in pitool, but no display and LED in red

Hello,

I’m trying to use the 8K HMD with a Gigabyte Aero 15-Y9 notebook. Its DP is thru a USB type-C adapter ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F17ZHJY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) which is said to be DP1.4.

Pitool (in both latest release and beta) can report a 8K and it looks fine, tracking works in steamVR from my monitor, there is simply no display in the HMD.

Is it my DP adapter causing the issue or any other hints?

Thanks,
Anthony

Hi,

Your USB-C is probably wired to the Intel GPU. You should rather use a mini-DP to DP adapter:

The cheapest will do.

Thanks a lot… unfortunately this laptop doesn’t come with a mini-DP port - only one USB-C for DP signal.

That’s strange, this review shows a mini-DP near the HDMI port:

Are you sure about the model?

Thanks fennec for looking into this. Unfortunately the model I have is like this

I see, I guess you tried both USB-C ports, maybe you should contact Gigabyte support and ask if the laptop is “VR Ready”.
