Look at the OPs posts in this thread, there have been meetups to test the eye strain and IPD issues with multiple backers who have above 60mm IPD.
All the OPs tester friends (6 of them) also have reported experiencing some eye strain after fitting headsets to their heads extensively, indicating some improvement to correct IPD issues and eye strain need to be made.
Asking for clarity on this has resulted in posts on the subject been deleted and ignored, the matter of fact is that there is a big issue with minimal IPD and eye strain being swept under the carpet, which has resulted in many backers and preorders having to sell their headsets after fitting and after trying their best to achieve clarity, because they were simply unable to no matter how hard they tried.
Pimax specified 55mm minimal fov in the kickstarter product specifications, they delivered a product which is 70mm minimal fov (or 60mm if you believe pitool which supposedly takes into account the fact the displays are cantered).
Pimax’s only address to this was that they would make a better face foam adding more distance, this may fix the issue for some, but would unlikely resolve the issue for people with 55mm IPD as some users with 64mm IPD are reporting being unable to get clarity in both eyes and/or eye strain as well.
What’s the plan to address the fact users with 55mm IPD can’t use their devices when they may have backed under the premise that they could use it because of minimal 55mm fov?
Here’s some possible solutions for you to explore
- New 160 fov lenses and adaptors to reach 55mm IPD, removing a section of the inner lens above the nose.
- Software IPD adjustment.
- Individual per eye IPD knobs on future models, old devices exchangeable for new models for those who have IPD issues.
- Redesign of lens seatment in future models to allow for smaller IPD adjustment, old devices exchangeable for new models for those who have IPD issues.
